STEM Educational Training Program: 5 days of STEM trainer training for 30 teachers in the branches of: Science, Primary Mathematics and Information Technologies, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics who work in disadvantaged schools in the district of Çarşamba, Salıpazarı and Ayvacık in Samsun.

What is STEM Education? Industry 4.0 and STEM Education connection.

Day 1

General information was exchanged about the history of STEM educa-tion. Then, the connection between 21st century skills and STEM educa-tion was discussed. In the third session, activities emphasizing the importance of the non-routine thinking structure were held, and in the fourth session, the sample STEM activity prepared at the Minesota STEM center was implemented.

Day 2

The methods and techniques used in STEM education were discussed. Afterwards, STEM training activity was held in accordance with the 5E learning model.

It aims to positively affect the success of students who receive STEM education, by supporting the development of their skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration, creativity and innovation.

Day 3

In STEM education, evaluation types were emphasized. The Evaluation tool was developed and shared through a sample event.

Thanks to the sustainability of these trainings and education in schools, a new generation education can be pioneered with the STEM approach. By developing new perspectives based on project and experience, the potential of our students, who will develop their learning competence, will grow to contribute to their value added production to their districts, regions and countries in the field of R&D and innovation, which are the key concepts of economic and social development.

Thanks to the sustainability of these trainings and education in schools, a new generation education can be pioneered with the STEM approach.

Day 4

The relationship between mathematical modeling and STEM education was emphasized and a more concrete understanding of the process was provided with sample application. Lesson plan was made in accordance with 5E learning model.

Our teachers who attended the training gained the knowledge and skills to enable students to develop course materials and materials that provide learning environments that improve STEM skills, apply STEM, design and innovation activities, inquire, research, develop products and make inventions.

Day 5

Lesson plan creation activity continued. 6 lesson plan examples were created and shared. The integration of STEM education with Algodo was emphasized. Sample activity demonstrations were made and sample application was carried out.

This project will bring our students’ understanding of education to the current approaches focused on technology, as well as the competence to develop STEM-based innovative project ideas for our teachers’ schools and their District National Education directorates, which are the administrative supervisors of the schools.

Thanks to this institutionalized competence, STEM classes, establishing maker workshops in cooperation with the training staff for STEM or similar new educational approaches and efforts to draw funding resources towards this region may be made.

The institutional target group of the project is the District Directorate of National Education and our schools where our teachers receive education.

These schools are: Fatih Secondary School, Çarşamba Science High School, 19 Mayıs Technology High School, Ayvacık Mehmet Akif Ersoy Secondary School, Salıpazarı Konakören Secondary School, Salıpazarı And High School, Salıpazarı Bereket YBO, Değirmenbaşı Secondary School, Helvacalı Secondary School, Çarşamba Vocational and Technical And.L., Gaziosmanpaşa Secondary School Consists of 9 secondary schools, 1 YBO and 7 High Schools, namely Çarşamba İmamhatip Secondary School, Yunus Emre MTAL, Damlataş Secondary School, Ali Fuat Başgil Anatolian High School, Çarşamba Anadolu İHL., Doğuyaka İmamhatip Secondary School.

Teachers of the disadvantaged schools, namely Vocational High Schools, Boarding Region Secondary Schools, Imam Hatip High Schools, were our participants.

When integrating STEM education into the national education system, an important step was taken – training teachers who are creative, productive and equipped with 21st century skills.
