This is an etwinning project. The name of the etwinning project we are working on is “THE SILENT CALL OF WATER”. There are 137 students and 20 teachers in the project.
Water, which forms a large part of the biological structures of living things, is an indispensable vital life support for all living things during periods of coming to earth, growth and development. Water, which is found in the form of solid, liquid and gas in nature, is found in the life of living things with different sources.
In addition to its chemical and biological properties, water is a source of life value that has been extremely effective in the formation of civilizations and in the formation of geographical and political boundaries.
It is rare that such abundant water on earth is found in a hygienic structure, especially necessary for people to use. Although three-quarters of the world is covered with water with its visible face, the biggest problem today is the lack of healthy, constantly available water resources.
GENERAL AIM OF PROJECT
By creating learning environments that raise individuals with sustainable environmental awareness, we aim to raise individuals who take responsibility in solving social problems, think creatively and analytically, produce different solutions based on cooperation, and adopt lifelong learning with sustainable environmental awareness.
Our students will work collaboratively and in teamwork to answer the following questions:
- How are people and animals affected by Contaminated Water?
- How will nature be affected by the presence of pollutants in the water?
- What can we do to ensure universal and equitable access to safe and accessible drinking water for all?
- How do you think we can develop a solution to this problem? What are the measures?
IMPLEMENTATION STAGES OF THE PROJECT
1.WORK: Clean Water, Healthy Future (access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene)
The students worked as a group in this activity. First, they examined some newspaper articles that the teacher had read about the importance of water in ecological life and discussed the subject.
Students search for other information on the topic and debate in a shared document. Thus, all teams together determine the appropriate slogans for the bookmark
We are preparing an innography that explains the value of water for this world. Later, we will design these innographies as bookmarks. In the bookmarks we have prepared, we will prepare and use an inography with the numerical data we have obtained from “If we do not pay attention to the next life, water scarcity will begin”, “The ecosystem will be negatively affected by this water”.
This activity realized during online lessons too using different online rooms to divide the students (zoom).
2.WORK: LET’S DETERMINE WATER LAWS
The purpose of the event is “How will universal and equitable access to safe and accessible drinking water be provided for all?” It is to find the rules that answer the question.
The Constitution is a convention adopted by individuals of this society. We need such a contract to understand the importance of water.
Each school team must add at least 5 items to the Padlet after discussing Water Constitution in the forum section.
3. WORK: WATER SAVING
We are doing public spotlight work to emphasize the importance of water saving. And than, each school team will select an item from the“ water saving tips” table on the page. All created items will be combined and a common public spotlight will be prepared.
4.WORK: OCEAN WASTE CLEANNING GAME
Industrial waste is one of the main causes of water pollution. We can prevent water pollution by ensuring that wastes are distilled and filtered. Water pollution should be reduced with environmental laws to be enacted and control mechanisms to be strengthened. It also seems necessary to support the construction of state-of-the-art facilities that will not pollute the water. As environmentally friendly systems increase in the industry, pollution decreases. In large construction projects, it is recommended to dump waste with the least damage to the environment and to use environmentally friendly materials in buildings. Choosing natural fertilizers in agriculture and not burying nuclear waste in the soil are among the things that can be done against water pollution. Population planning, preparation of awareness campaigns on water, training and panels to prevent water waste support the current effort against water pollution.
We are designing water-themed games in the Scratch program. This activity was carried out using different online rooms to divide students also during online classes (zoom).
5.WORK: WATER FRIENDLY HOME PROJECT
In this project, we aimed to save water in homes.
First we wrote down the houses, the number of family members living in the house, the price per tonne of water and the value of the incoming water bill in a excell table. Thus, we calculated how much water is used per person at home. Then we wrote the codes in Excel and compared the amount of water per person. If it is more than the required amount, a “WATER SAVING” warning will appear on the table automatically. If the amount of water per person is within the desired range, “WATER FRIENDLY HOME” warning will be written on the table automatically. Thus, the “WATER FRIENDLY HOME” emblem will be attached to the invoices and people will be able to save water.
PROJECT RESULTS
Our students achieved the following gains as a result of our activities;
- To gain behaviors that contribute positively to the future of water in daily life and consumer product preferences.
- To understand the place of water in STEAM fields and to be able to include it in collaborative learning
- To develop solutions that will contribute positively to the future of water.
- Designing a game themed to keep the oceans clean
- To gain awareness about the place and importance of water in human life based on STEM fields.
- To learn the concept of water footprint, which is one of the ecological traces left for students in nature, and to realize the leave left in water.
- Internalizing behaviors for conscious water consumption
very good, CONGRATULATIONS
A VERY PRODUCTIVE PROJECT, THANKS
