I am a physics teacher. I worked as a teacher in middle school and high school. I have been teaching in primary school for a long time, I continue to be a learner-teacher and learner-student.

My students, aged 7-8, who live in poor conditions in the society and have to cope with disabilities due to these conditions, attended the “STEM Discovery Campaign 2021” organized by Scientix and met with STEM. My disadvantaged students found rational solutions to the problem of lack of material they encountered in order to contribute to the “Let ‘sFInd Hope in Spring” eTwinning project by learning and applying the STEM application steps.

With the Growing Beans activity, it is aimed that students observe the plants in their immediate surroundings, gain love of nature, experience the beautiful pleasure of their production and produce a rational solution to the problems they encounter. They met STEM education for the first time and learned the STEM steps practically.

At the growing beans event, students encountered using STEM steps ‘Why did our beans rot? What kind of environment is needed for the seed to develop? How do I measure the height of growing sprouts? What should I do so that growing sprouts can continue their development? . What environment do seeds need to thrive?

Shared their ideas with each other by doing research. Experiment to make sure of the result. Shared the results of the observation. Compared with each other. Discussed why some seeds rot and others germinate and complete their development. Concluded that the seeds needed sufficient water, temperature, and air to complete their development. They used string to measure the height of the growing shoots. In this way, they learned about non-standard measurement units. Noticing that the growing shoots wilt after a while, they concluded that the plants needed soil to survive. They brought them together with the land.

Online Meeting

‘’  Let’s Fİnd Hope in Spring’’ project is an eTwining project. 15 teachers from Jordan, Spain, Romania and Turkey attend. First, within the scope of “STEM Discovery Campaign 2021”, we held an online meeting with our partners in Turkey with the examples we used in the classroom to raise awareness of STEM in our students..

Next, what are STEM and its implementation steps? How can we integrate the stem implementation steps into the lessons and activities in the project? What can students do? How do we create STEM awareness in our environment. ? What should be done for this? How is STEM applied in different age groups? we discussed

As a result, we identified inclusive project activities where 21st century skills can be experienced and developed by students and that our students can participate according to their circumstances.

  Butterfly Cycle (egg) activity with STEM

We ask our 7-8 year old students to find a rational solution to our lack of material to participate in the collaborative work in the Butterfly cycle of the “Let’s Be Hope in Spring” project using the Stem steps.

My students shared what they know about Butterflies and Butterfly Cycle (egg). They researched in cooperation. They shared the results of the research with each other.Together they decided to act out the question and answer for the event.Why do butterflies lay their eggs on leaves?

   Butterfly eggs are on the leaf .. Because the caterpillar is very hungry when it first hatches. It eats the leaf. It grows when it eats the leaf.


They used waste paper and cardboard as materials. By establishing a group, they formed leaves, eggs and butterfly puppets.

First, they created a butterfly model by doing a simple visual coding … Then they shared it. He collected the recycling waste and made butterfly puppets. Finally he formed a group, designed and modeled leaves and eggs together.

When we came to the department where we will be animating, my students, who are 7′-8 years old, who live in inadequate conditions in the society and have to cope with the inadequacies caused by them, had to completely switch to distance education due to the Covid19 epidemic.

They ran into the real problem How would they complete the event? Would smartphones be enough to complete this activity for my students who only have phones to participate in distance education?

Finally, what does it do to complete the activity? Looked for a solution that would suit their conditions. They shared their ideas.Because they are responsible for completing the mission

In an online lesson, they chose two people from among them and took an audio recording of their question and answer.

Wanted animation from their puppets. (We had previously made our class mascot and avatars talk with Web2 tools.) They asked for help in this regard.
