PHYSICS AND FLAMENCO. DIVERCIENCIA

Our daily challenge as disseminators of scientific knowledge is to bring this knowledge to the students in a meaningful way, so that this facilitates that, through an internal process, they use it in the development of a competence. This is the main reason for organising a science fair.

It has been a pleasure to participate in the inauguration of the Second fair of science of Tarifa, showing the project of “Physics and Flamenco”, a winner of Diverciencia 2017 and Science in Action 2017. With this project not only the physics is transmitted in a significant way of sound, but also the transformation of something physical, like sound, into something as human as art, in this case flamenco, representative of Andalusian culture and intangible heritage of humanity. The Power of Plants. DIVERCIENCIA

The Power of Plants

2nd Grade Primary

Colegio Puertoblanco

Our project consists of a series of activities, including experiments and exhibitions all about the power of plants.  We will show the capacity they have to grow and move in response to stimuli such as light, water, gravity and touch: tropic and nastic movements.  We will also demonstrate how they can prevent erosion.  We will explain the medicinal uses of some plants.  Finally, we will describe the Fibonacci sequence and how it can be seen in the number of flower petals and the spirals in fruits and flowers.

20000 Leagues Under the Sea DIVERCIENCIA

                 ¨20000 LEAGUES UNDER  THE SEA¨

With this project we aim to plan, test, apply and produce a complete Learning Project, using Inquiry Methodology, aimed at Pre School and Primary School Students, about the Earth’s Oceans features. From the book “20.000 Leagues Under the Sea”, Students will be lead to research, formulate and test hypothesis and share knowledge with their classmates in their local communities, as well as exchanging ideas with other students from a different country. Thereby, they would be able to learn another language, share each other’s culture and discover the local environment. In this way we would expect to widen our students knowledge opening new horizons and motivating them to protect our planet’s natural marine resources. This project also aims to improve the use of STEAM methodologies both in Pre School and Primary School, by encouraging the students to use ICT and Robotic resources, to recreate scenes, test hypothesis and share conclusions from the story read. Students will also be expected to investigate, learn and discuss about Aquatic Transportation. By stimulating students natural curiosity, we would try to produce a wide range of resources to teach them and others about Earth’s Ocean’s features and needs. Last but not least…this project will produce new material available for everybody to see created by the children themselves, sharing  a valuable multilingual resources bank (Spanish, Portuguese, English) about the oceans, their animals and plants, at the same time.

Water with Science

WATER WITH SCIENCE

AGUA A CON CIENCIA

This  collaborative project is born to improve our environment and to delve into knowledge  to value and love a precious good like it is water. Its objectives expose the main characteristics of water and, from there, carry out experiences the help to internalize the objectives.

This citizen science project aims to show the water cycle, different uses that this limited resource receives and how can we rationalize our consumption, improve use at home and, above all, in our schools.

To achieve meaningful student learning involved, experiences have been designed to capture the contents and advance in a consumption more conscious. With surveys, the school compiled a lot of data for, within the framework of a science initiative citizen, find solutions and reduce consumption.
